To All MonroePS Email Users, As of Tuesday, September 14 at 11:30PM, the email server located at http://webmail.monroeps.org is online and back in service. Please note that the initial login screen to webmail now contains a temporary message repeating some of the information listed here. What happened? At approximately 12:00PM on September 14, the email system reached its maximum capacity, causing the email database to abruptly become offline. The Technology Department immediately began a process to defragment (reduce) the email database. This is an arduous process that requires email to be offline. Unfortunately, by 9:00PM, the process had failed as the email database had become corrupted. A repair process was immediately deployed. The repair and subsequent restart enabled the mail server to function correctly. What's next? The email database is still hovering at its maximum limit. A defragmentation is still required to reduce the email database size. As a result, Webmail for MonroePS.org will be unavailable beginning September 15 at 4:00PM. The defragmentation process may take up to 9 hours. How can this be avoided? The Technology Department will be moving some users to a secondary database, effectively doubling our email storage capacity. This change will be invisible to users. Additionally, users will be audited in the next few days based on the size of their mailbox. Users with enormous mailbox sizes will be contacted by the Technology Department to reduce the size of their mailboxes. Other controls, such as maximum mailbox size limits, may be employed if deemed necessary. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this outage may have caused. Please be assured we are implementing controls to avoid these types of outages in the future. Be sure to visit our blog at http://www.monroecttech.com/chronicle.aspx for continuous updates on this and other technology related maintenance activity. Thank you,
